In order to add a little liveliness to internships, a photo-a-day challenge has been enforced to add visual insight to the excitement of an internship. The photo-a-day challenge will capture things I have experienced in my internship, things on my desk, a little laughter here and there, and of course a little bragging.
Every Wednesday I will post a featured internship in Memphis. In these posts, I will explain about the company, internship and pay. Look for Feature Funday in the title to learn about different opportunities. Memphis Heritage is an organization that offers valuable internship opportunities that incorporates community involvement. Memphis Heritage is a 37-year-old non-profit organization that works to educate and coordinate individuals to become advocates for Memphis’ historical buildings. Their main focus is to save historical buildings in threat of demolition and restore them for the community to reuse and appreciate. “We are currently trying to save the Nineteenth Century Club mansion on Union that is in threat of being torn down,” says the energetic and passionate Executive Director of Memphis Heritage, June West, “an intern would get to do marketing, communication and social media projects to support our efforts to get the community involved.” Other projects interns would be involved in include creating and presenting power points for 5th grade students to educate them on the history of Memphis. Memphis Heritage is looking for interns with backgrounds in marketing, communications, journalism, public relations and history. They currently have an intern from Rhodes College but are looking to expand to other colleges in Memphis. “Since Memphis Heritage is a non-profit organization, our internships are unpaid. However, we do offer valuable hands on experience in the community, and we plan to offering housing to our interns within the next two years,” says West. Feature Funday: Archer>MalmoArcher>Malmo is an independent full-service marketing firm and advertising agency located in downtown Memphis that offers summer internships. “Our internships are fully hands on and offer valuable experience that can be carried in the workplace,” says Mary Lynn Gratzer, senior vice president of client services. “Additionally, they are paid." The internship provides the opportunity to learn many different areas of marketing and advertising since they are a full-service firm. Its staff consists of 130 employees in public relations, media services, digital services, operations, human resources and accounting. Archer>Malmo is affiliated with a number of accredited groups, including Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), American Association of Advertising Agencies (AAAA), and Direct Marketing Association (DMA). They specialize in brand awareness to consumers of B2B marketing and retailers, which is great experience for college students to add to their resume. After all, many companies are looking for exclusive, unique items to offer their customer, which often leads to house brands. Overall, Archer>Malmo is a popular and prestigious internship for students because they can add experience to their academic credentials. However, with the magnitude of success and clients Archer>Malmo has, it is important that graduates have experience along with education. Sometimes, the internship even leads to jobs. “The internship offers a great way to get your foot in the door at Archer>Malmo,” explained Gratzer. |
